Once the script was complete and Juri signed on to star in ‘blood,’ Gray embraced the experience of then moving on to direct the feature. “That happened a lot of the time, so I was full of emotion for him and his experience, and for my subconscious, as well.” I had a lot of admiration for the honesty Brad had come forward with, so that I could bring all of my honesty to him,” the performer also shared. “In the meantime, the camera rolls, and I thought that was beautiful and authentic to an experience of loss. He was trying to find me, and I was trying to find him we were trying to find each other without rush – everyone takes their time,” she noted. “I really liked Brad’s approach, which was unconventional and freeform. Juri then delved into why she was interested in playing Chloe, and how she became involved in starring in the drama. The framework between the friends in the story is pretty simple, though,” Gray added. “It was then mainly about finding the right person to play the Toshi character, and when we did, we would adjust the script to him. I then found Carla, and we went from there after that,” the writer continued. “It didn’t end up making the film with her, but that’s what established the script. The thing that she and I had in common was that someone close to her had passed away, and my parents died when I was a kid,” he shared. “Originally, I was working on the script with a friend of mine who’s an actress, as well. The conversation began with Gray revealing why he was inspired to write the script for ‘blood,’ and what the process of scribing the screenplay was like. The duo also shared that they’re honored that the movie was chosen to have its World Premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. Among other things, the filmmaker and actress discussed that the inspiration for the script came in part from the sribe’s personal experiences with death throughout his life, which helped the performers take an unconventional, but equally genuine, approach to playing their characters. Gray and Juri generously took the time recently to talk about penning, helming, producing and starring in ‘blood’ during an exclusive interview over Zoom. The story observes the resilience of life and love, the surprise of desire, the barriers of language and the staggering impact of relationships. After the success of "Wetlands," Juri began to make an attempt to transition to American cinema. Her true breakout role was the leading role of Helen in the German drama "Wetlands" (2013), which was based on a best-selling novel. Over the next few years, Juri appeared in a variety of Swiss and later German films. Her first credited role was in the short "Midday Room" (2006), but what started to earn her acclaim was her part in "180°" (2010), which garnered Swiss award buzz. She spent time in Los Angeles and London, working on short films and more along the way. Starting in 2005, Juri began to study acting over the course of five years across two continents. Born and raised in the town of Ambri in Switzerland, Carla Juri didn't discover acting until her 20s.
